Habits of highly effective people

How often have you noticed that you have been working for the sake of working rather than being really productive? Facetime in the office, constant coffee breaks or long over hours don’t make us more productive. They just stop us from developing a holistic view of the entire picture. If you believe it is time to boost your efficiency read our top 3 favourite habits to be more focused and optimize your time:

  1. Write down every day your top priority of the day. 1-2 things that need to be completed by the end of the day. This helps you prioritize your daily tasks and feel good when you completed them. The rest can wait.
  2. Deactivate your constant email synchronization. Only open the emails at certain points of the day. This helps you focus and not get constantly distracted with every new email coming in. Nina tried it out and says it has changed her life!
  3. Quantify the consequence of possible decisions or errors into numbers. Ask yourself what can happen if you are not available for an entire afternoon. Is it really the end of the world? Or if you got a customer complaint. Instead of feeling extremely stressed try to step back and take an analytical approach. Most mistakes we do can be fixed with a follow up call or will cost you under 100 EUR to fix. Being aware of this will change your life 😉

In a world that gets more and more connected and stressful it is important to set the priorities right. Books such as the “four hour week”, The “E-Myth” and “the hard things about hard things” are highly recommended to those of you who would like to optimize their precious time and become more efficient and productive. Success!

Receptionist sent home from PwC for not wearing high heels

Unfortunately we have read several headlines like this one over the past year. Especially shocking was the case of Nicola Thorp who was told to leave on her first day at City accountancy firm after refusing to wear shoes with a 2-4in heel.

We firmly believe that you can look both elegant and professional wether you decide to wear flat shoes or high heels. And as long as you feel comfortable wearing them. It’s time to bring a fresh air to the corporate offices. 🙂

Happy International Women’s Day!

On March 8 the International Women’s Day is celebrated to felicitate women and their achievements but also to remind us that much more has to be done.

Organisations funding school education for girls, political actions all over the world and global movements such as “lean in” have recently raised a lot of attention to gender inequality. However, it will take much more until we can speak of an equal world for women and men. According to the statistics of the European Union „in 2015, women’s gross hourly earnings were on average 16.3 % below those of men in the European Union (EU-28) and 16.8% in the euro area (EA-19). Across Member States, the gender pay gap varied by 21 percentage points, ranging from 5.5 % in Italy and Luxembourg to 26.9 % in Estonia“ (Source: Eurostat).

To change this gender gap we should support other women and think how we can be role models for our society. In the words of Malala Yousafzai: “Do not wait for someone else to come and speak for you. It’s you who can change the world.”

This video shows how you can teach your daughters that they can be everything they want and achieve anything they want from – despite being a woman. And all it takes is reading them out a children story with female role models 🙂

Cheers to us and our future 🙂

Travel often, travel light !

Two weeks ago I travelled on holidays to beautiful and mystic Oman. The trip was beautiful and highly recommendable, but after the trip I realized that I could have left 50% of my luggage at home because I did not wear it. This happens to me over and over again so I started googling tips on how to pack a suitcase. It seems so simple and yet I can tell you: it is an art !

During my research I stumpled across this article from Deanna Keahey and thought it is worthwhile sharing. My resolution for 2017? Travel often, travel light !

“If you are planning a trip, whether business or pleasure, choosing the right travel clothes for the trip can save you headaches, money and frustration. Often we pack far more clothes than we need or wear, yet never seem to have the right thing. Here is a guide to help you choose the best travel clothing.

Plan for Your Trip – The first rule of choosing travel clothing is to let your itinerary guide you. If your trip is going to be primarily business then you are going to want to choose clothing that meets that need. If it is a vacation you are heading out for, then your choice of wardrobe could be entirely different. However, regardless of what kind of trip you are taking here are some basic features to look for in your travel clothes.

Think Versatility – When choosing travel clothing, think in terms of separates that you can mix and match. For pants or skirts, keep the colors versatile. Beige, black and khaki are great choices that will go with a variety of tops. Depending on the length of your trip, you could pack 4-7 tops and 3-4 bottoms. If you plan it so that every top could go with each separate bottom, this can give you more than 20 different outfits. For outdoors-oriented trips, if you pack convertible pants with zip off legs, you won’t need to pack additional shorts for warm days.

Choose Durable, Easy Care, and Wrinkle Resistant – Choosing materials that are durable, wrinkle resistant and easy to care for will make your trip go a lot smoother if you need to wash anything out. Travel clothes constructed from microfibers, which are a mix of polyester and Lycra and sometimes other materials, meet all three of these requirements. They are also comfortable to wear and have a nice feel and look to them, which is important when traveling long distances. For women, knitted tank tops can be used for casual wear and then with a blazer or shawl thrown over them can be equally suitable for business or even an evening out. They are easy to wash and relatively quick drying if you need to do a quick hand wash in your motel room.

Look for Light Weight and Compact – Unless you are traveling to an area that is particularly cold, so that you would need heavy travel clothes the whole time, it is better to pack light weight materials, as they will make carrying the suitcase across the airport or up a flight of stairs much simpler. Knit fabrics can be extremely compact as you can roll them to fit into cracks in your suitcase without worrying about wrinkles – the wrinkles will fall right out. Pants with zip off legs also prove to be compact as you are packing one item in place of two. Underwear and accessories can be tucked easily into corners and pockets.

One Added Note For Women – Unless a formal dinner is on your agenda, there is no need to pack a separate dress for dining out. Having at least one shirt the same color as a skirt you are taking along can provide you with a dressy outfit for even the most elegant restaurant, when combined with the right belt and accessories.

By simply taking a few basic travel clothes and interchangeable items that are easy to care for and wrinkle resistant, you can pack travel clothing for any kind of trip with ease.

Yes !! WE MADE IT !

Beaming with happiness and pride we felt like dancing around our apartments and jumping into the air when Annegret called us in November to announce us that we are now part of the Accelerator of the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship in Munich.

It all started with a small undefined idea I had during my holidays when I asked my husband if he thinks that I am crazy and he told me to go full in (note to myself: he truly is the most amazing husband J). After spending endless days and nights together with Ilaria defining an elegant fashion line for working women, spending the week before my wedding working on a first prototype and the week after my wedding preparing for the admission presentation with little sleep and endless discussions it felt like our work finally paid off.

After the presentation we were nervous and decided to focus on other topics while waiting for the result. But then Annegret called. And we just couldn’t believe it. Other people, people we don’t even know, actually believe in our idea and us! We reached a HUGE milestone!

Now we are extremely motivated and created an ambitious timeline to bring out the first prototype as soon as possible. Nonetheless it is our biggest drive to bring out a product that both Ilaria and I will carry with pride. We promise that we will settle with nothing less!

Stay tuned and subscribe to follow our adventure J

What Mojo is about ..

We have spent countless weekends and evenings sitting together and skyping to brainstorm about our new brand for working women. After countless discussions, we finally found the perfect name: Mojo.

Mojo stands for a lucky charm, a talisman, and talent. We want to be the lucky charm for women, giving them the confidence to believe in their own talent and be the driver of their own success 🙂

As such our first product will be a handbag  women can take with confidence to work, without hiding themselves and their personalities. We decided that we will work on this bag until it is perfect and we both would love to wear it every single day. And of course, it should be so multifunctional that we can use it in both our private lives and our work lives.

Sign up and stay tuned on our progress 🙂

How it all started…

Sunday 1st of May

(it’s supposed to be the day to celebrate workers… so let’s hope it’ll give us a good luck)

I received a text from Bali, more precisely from a girl that I met several times during 2015 and always during special events. She is naturally gifted by an entrepreneurial spirit, a clever and beautiful German lady, girlfriend and now wife of one of my MBA’s classmates.

She was just figuring out that women travelling or commuting for business have very hard time to get functional and at the same time elegant accessories for their business meetings, such as bags and folders.

She was looking for a new bag and she was struggling in her fashion research.

I received her text “maybe I’m crazy but I would love to discuss with you about a business project”. I was actually in a period of my life where I was working with some startups but nothing that was really appealing to me and knowing her a bit I was excited and curious at the same time and I couldn’t wait to hear more and make our first project alive…

That’s the begin of our small adventure that turned out much bigger already than expected !
